Replace Missing Teeth
There are plenty of reasons to replace missing teeth. All your teeth work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. When teeth are missing, it is difficult to do these things. If a missing tooth is not replaced, the teeth around it can move, causing bite problems and pain because your teeth no longer fit together properly. Even the loss of a back tooth may cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older. Fortunately, missing teeth can be replaced and they should be.
Dental Implants
A dental implant can be used to restore a single tooth or multiple teeth. Dental implants involve the placement of a surgical grade titanium post directly into the jawbone by one of the doctor's trusted specialists. As the bone bonds to the post, it forms a secure foundation for the attachment of a crown or a bridge that is custom created for you. Some of the biggest advantages of implants are that they are more similar to your natural tooth, adjacent teeth do not have to be involved in the procedure, and implants may help decrease or prevent shrinkage of your jawbone that can occur from tooth loss.
Porcelain Crowns
If you have one tooth, or several teeth, that are damaged due to wear and tear, injury, or decay, one or more porcelain crowns may be the solution that heals your smile.
Porcelain Bridges
When you are missing a tooth, it can have a significant effect on your smile and your appearance. The dark place where the tooth once was makes your smile look narrow, and your cheeks may "cave in" because of the gap, giving you an aged, hollow look. Functionally, your other teeth may shift, and you may chew differently, causing a misalignment in your bite and possibly discomfort or pain.
A porcelain bridge is a natural-looking, non-removable tooth replacement that can complete your smile again. Dr. Heilman creates a customized tooth, as well as crowns for the teeth on either side of your missing tooth. The crowns, with your new porcelain tooth between them, bridge the gap in your smile. Not only does a bridge look natural and incredible, it feels great as well.
Inlays/Onlays
Removing tooth decay effectively requires removal of the diseased portion of your tooth. Onlays are an ideal alternative to crowns (caps), because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of an onlay than a conventional crown. Dr. Heilman customizes an inlay or onlay that is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. It's a wonderful solution to provide relief from chewing pain, cavity pain and tooth degeneration.
Bite Appliance (NightGuard)
A bite appliance protects your teeth and jaw from the harmful results of grinding and clenching your teeth—a condition called bruxism. When your teeth do not align properly, the muscles in your face and jaw cannot relax, resulting in headaches, migraines, neck pain, and other ailments. Additionally, chipped, cracked, or broken teeth may occur, as well as periodontal (gum tissue) breakdown.
A NightGuard is a customized bite appliance that is worn while you sleep. Dr. Heilman specially designs your NightGuard so that it will allow your jaw to relax and rest while you slumber, eliminating the issues that stem from clenching and grinding. If you think you may suffer from bruxism, ask Dr. Heilman to place you on the path toward relief today.
